Merry Christmas to All!!!

So...didn't exactly get around to Christmas cards this year-but let's just chalk it up to wanting to be frugal and green! Yeah...that sounds great! This year has been an amazing one filled with great joy and great sadness. I will try to recap our crazy lives in one post to fill you in our 2011 happenings.

January: We took a trip to California to bury our sweet Great-Grandma Bertie. It was a trip filled with tears but also joy as we celebrated her life and were able to be together with a lot of Evan's family.

February: We had a really fun family date night for Valentine's Day at a tempanyaki place where we had our food cooked right in front of us and caught flying shrimp in our mouths.

March: Sulli and I were able to attend a Christian music festival and had special backstage privileges thanks to Miss Andrea and her DeRidder, LA connections.

April: I got to take a get away trip to Vegas to meet up with my parents and sister for some fun in the sun, good food and a couple of shows. It was much needed and much appreciated! Sulli also started his first soccer season through Upward Sports League and he had a ball!

May: Sulli graduated from Kindergarten and this began the beginning of my dream summer. The boys were able to be out of school for the summer thanks to amazing friends and family who offered to help watch them while I worked a shorter work week. We took many field trips, had play dates, swam daily, and just enjoyed being together. It was the best.

June: Our family took at "stay-cation" in downtown Boise and had a great time. We went to the opening of Cars 2, ate a yummy dinner, watched a local running race, went to the Saturday market, saw the Shriner's Circus parade, and stayed at a great hotel. It was awesome!

July: We were able to be a part of the burial of my Grandma Dossie in Ketchum who passed last December. It was a beautiful day in the mountains that she loved so dearly and we were even lucky enough to see a moose with 2 babies that we are certain were sent by Grandma. Sulli celebrated his 6th birthday and Evan and I celebrated our 10th anniversary. Ev surprised me with a trip to San Diego that he managed to keep a complete secret until we were boarding the plane and our destination was announced over the loud speaker. It was wonderful!

August: We took a family road trip to the Oregon Coast and met up with my parents (Nana and Papa) and spent a few days playing in the sand, touring local towns and aquariums, and eating seafood. We loved it. Sulli started first grade at Pioneer Elementary and Benny started preschool at a new school this year, Maranatha Christian School. They love their classmates, teachers and lessons. Evan's parents (Mimi and Bumpa) help out immensely by watching the boys before and after school on my work days. This made it possible for me to start a new part-time job in addition to my old part-time job as a psychometrist for a neuropsychology program at the Elk's hospital. Sulli participated in his first triathlon and declared that he wants to do more. Evan completed an Olympic distance triathlon that same weekend.

September: We spent Labor Day at the family cabin with family and friends. We played a mean game of flag football and were finally able to lay Grandpa and Grandma Strand's ashes to rest. Sulli started his first season of flag football with Upward Sports and had a good time with his team and dad as a coach.

October: The beginning of this month brought us surprising news that we would be welcoming another Wyke to the family at the end of May 2012. We don't know yet what flavor it will be...but he/she is already wiggling around and making his/her presence known. Revealing of the sex will hopefully happen on Jan. 9th if baby cooperates.

November: No notables.

December: Both boys put on wonderful Christmas programs at their schools and we were proud parents and grandparents in the audience. Evan completed the Christmas fun run in downtown Boise with some friends and about 2,300 other people. We look forward to this weekend where we will be celebrating Christ's birth in Boise with both sets of grandparents.

We are so very blessed to have such amazing friends and family in our lives. The year in review makes me see just how lucky of a girl I am! I truly hope that you all can celebrate with family and friends and count your blessings as well. May 2012 bring lots of memory making opportunities and experiences! Love from the Wyke family to yours!

Holy Sabbatical Batman!

I cannot believe that it has been over one year since I have posted on here! I guess it just shows how crazy life can get. And I am imagining that it only gets crazier from here. Quick update for all of you who still are living out here in blogland...Sulli started Kindergarted this year and is loving it! He did a 6 month Taekwondo stint but decided that it wasn't what he wanted to do. We are awaiting the start of Upward Soccer which he is greatly anticipating. Benson took a faceplant digger on the hardwood floor and knocked out his front two teeth..to which he has adjusted nicely. He loves his preschool class and especially his teacher Miss Donna.

We moved from Star to Boise last August and have been working on fixing up a house that was in dire need of some love. It is a slow process since you have to have both time and money to do this....we need a refill of both!!

Our church Bridgepoint recently launched the opening of a Meridian campus and we are excited to be serving on many service teams.

Evan and I both lost a Grandmother in the last couple of months. We celebrated my Grandma Dossie's life in December in Twin Falls and Evan's Grandma Bertie's life in Coalinga, CA in January. So sad to experience this loss but so thankful that these two wonderful women are at home where they belong!

I started working 5 mornings a week last fall at the same nursing home that I have been at for the past couple of years. I enjoy my patients and my co-workers. Evan continues as the Production Manager at ReBath as well as working on several other dreams and schemes at the same time.

Hopefully I can get back into this blogging thing and catch up with all of you. Sorry for my absence! Hope life is wonderful with you all. Much love!!!

backwards night

just finished with backwards night at the wyke household. we had breakfast for dinner and wore our clothes backwards to the table. the boys loved doing something different and fun. i need to come up with more themed nights like this that are easy to pull off. makes life so much more fun and interesting.

now if i could just serve breakfast for every meal to my kids-i would never have to fight mealtime battles ever again. what a little syrup won't do!

Merry Christmas to You 2009!

Once again I am taking the more economic route to Christmas cards and hoping that you all will enjoy reading about our family adventures on our blog. The year flew by as usual and it didn't seem like all that much happened. And then I went back to my planner and started looking up pictures...we had one busy year! I hope that you can place the pictures with the stories...I have been working on the formatting of this post forever now and have decided to give up. Sorry that things don't exactly line up! But I have pirates that I need to go fight...and fighting pirates is much more important that formatting.

JANUARY: Our year started off with a Jungle themed ONE YEAR OLD BIRTHDAY PARTY (theme picked out by big brother). We had a great time celebrating the first year of our baby boy Benson. Can't believe that we are fast approaching TWO!

FEBRUARY: Evan and I took a weekend trip to San Diego and enjoyed some sightseeing, delicious food, and good company. Evans parents were gracious enough to watch the boys for us.

MARCH: We took both boys cross country skiing for the first time and they had a great time. Sulli did really well on his own skiis and is excited to get into the snow again this year.

APRIL: At the end of March, we were lucky enough to buy a travel trailer from some dear friends who moved to Texas. This was a dream come true! We have been wanting to do this for some time. Wasting no time and deciding to "go big" we took our first trip in our trailer to CALIFORNIA!!! Yes we are crazy. We took it to LA to visit Evan's brother, sister-in-law and niece and then up to the Fresno area to see his Grandma. All in all it was a great trip. I celebrated my 31st birthday by starting my first garden. I was lucky to have lots of help from the boys. We celebrated Easter with a visit from my family. And I took a trip to Portland for my girls weekend and to celebrate the arrival of Bennett Dean, my girlfriend Jen's first baby.

MAY: May was a very busy month for us. We took the trailer out on a weekend trip to Glenn’s Ferry at 3 Island Park with the Lindley's. My mom and dad come over for a campfire dinner that night. Evan completed his first ½ Marathon and his first Duathlon and really enjoyed both experiences. We celebrated Evan and my dad’s birthdays up at the cabin. We also took a trip to Bend, Oregon with a small group of friends and had a ball!

JUNE: June brought some great outdoor play times and some fun “coonskin caps” from one of Nana and Papa’s adventures. We also went to Pine Flats camping in the trailer with the Lindley's again. Last hurrah in the trailer as financial wisdom got the best of us. The trailer was passed on to some other worthy travelers. Hopefully some day in the future, we can again live the travel trailer life!!

JULY: We celebrated the 4th of July at the local God and Country Festival with great music, friends and fireworks. Sulli celebrated his 4th birthday “Spiderman Style” and had a great time with friends and family. We took a weekend trip up to McCall to see our wonderful friends the VanMiddendorps. And we also enjoyed an afternoon on a local reservoir with the Williams family.

AUGUST: We enjoyed a great weekend up at the cabin with my family. My sister and her fiance’ took Sulli down the creek in Grandpa’s trusty old boat. We have used that boat to float for as long as I can remember. I was also able to escape to Spokane with my mom and sister for some fun girl time and wedding dress shopping.

SEPTEMBER: We were lucky enough to be invited back for another year on Lake Powell with my parents and our great family friends the Wagners. It was once again a great trip. The weather was not as hot this year so our time in the water was a bit less. The boys had the most fun on the sandy beaches splashing in the water, searching for pirate treasure, and building sand creations. We also got up to the cabin to participate in the trailing of the sheep festival. The boys were the most amazed with all the sheep poop in the road after the parade...go figure!

OCTOBER: October started out with a trip to the local pumpkin patch with the Connelly family. This is a second year tradition that we are hoping to keep alive for many years to come. Sulli and Ben really got into the carving this year. And Sulli, who is our designated party planner/costume designer, rallied the family into a group of M&M’s. We spent Halloween at our church’s Trunk or Treat again this year. The boys had a great time and so did we.

NOVEMBER: Thanksgiving this year was spent with my family in Twin Falls. We were joined by my sister and her fiance’, aunts, uncles and great-grandparents. It was a wonderful time with family.

Evan and his partner Spencer were honored through the Chamber of Commerce by receiving the “Integrity Counts” award for their business ReBath. They are doing a great job with this company and are making it grow. They recently acquired the Spokane, WA and Reno, NV territories. Needless to say, our lives are about to get very busy.

I am still working a couple of days a week at a nursing home and am lucky enough to have the same child care situation as last year. Although our group of 3 kids has grown to 4! Tracy, my “nanny buddy” had her second daughter in August. The kids love playing together and I love knowing they are in good hands and that I only have to be gone for a few hours at a time.

Sulli is in his second year of preschool and attends 3 half days a week. He loves his teachers and friends there. He loves music, riding his bike, playing with his brother, cuddling with mom and dad and he has a new found favorite...hot chocolate!

Benson is the eternal busy-body! He too loves music, dancing and playing with big brother. He is getting into the wrestling matches with dad and Sulli and holds his own fairly well...his secret move is to pinch the face. Gets them every time! He is definately still a Mama's boy...unless Nana is around. If that's the case, he won't leave her side.

We love where we are at in life even though it seems to be an exhausting stage. We continue to love our thriving church and are both serving in different ministries there. We are involved in two different small group Bible studies that we thoroughly enjoy. We are so blessed with amazing family and friends. Even through the tough times, we realize that this is truly all that matters. It's all about relationships, right!! A relationship with our Heavenly Father, with our family, and with our friends.

Christmas will be celebrated at home this year and Sulli is greatly anticipating every bit of it. We hope that you too are anticipating the celebration of Jesus's birth and that the hectic nature of the holiday will fade away revealing this awesome event. We love you all and only wish that our paths crossed more frequently. I am loving the ability to keep up with some of you electronically. We would always love to hear from you on facebook, by email (coly88@hotmail.com or evanawyke@gmail.com), or by visiting us on our blog.

God bless you all!
Evan, Nicole, Sullivan and Benson Wyke

Pumpkin Patch

We ventured out to the Linder Farms Pumpkin Patch last night with the Connelly's. The way the week had started, I was worried we were going to be cold kids. But the day ended up being beautiful and we had great "patch" weather. Linder Farms keeps kicking it up a notch every year. So this year the kids enjoyed the hay bail maze, the tractor train ride and new this year...the swing-go-round. They also had a petting zoo and delicious mini donuts that the Connelly's shared.

It is always difficult picking out that perfect pumpkin. But Sulli managed to find 2 great ones for our family. We went back to the ConCon's for some delicious chili and cornbread and some fun time with friends. I am loving this tradition. We are only going on two years but I hope that we can continue this adventure for many years to come. What do you say Connelly's???

Lake Powell 2009

What a wonderful trip...yet again. We just returned from a week on a houseboat on Lake Powell. We went down with my parents and their close friends the Wagners. It was another amazing trip. The weather was cooler this year so we didn't spend as much time in the water as previous years. But it was still a great trip. The boys loved all of the adventures. And boy did we have adventures. Sulli discovered a treasure map that lead to buried treasure on one of our beaches, we had an amazing firework display most nights, we played fun games, ate great food, relaxed, explored, took great boat rides, and just had fun. Thanks again Mom and Dad for a wonderful time in paradise. We love you!
